Today is 12/13/2020, Around this time of year winter weather is always a hazard. From black ice to snow there is always a problem. Especially blizzards. Blizzards are probably one of the worst types of winter weather. I say this because it usually comes with a lot of snow, wind, and annoying snowplow’s at 1:00am in the morning. I have nothing against snowplow’s its just I’m trying to sleep. But there is something worse than blizzards. It’s freezing rain. Freezing rain is so dangerous you can die from it at any time. From flipping your car to being hit by a falling power line or even a branch the ways you can die are unlimited. Anyway did you know that winter weather damage annually cost a billion dollars. That is a lot of money I’m sure you can buy a ton of snowplows with that.
Wildfire Season 2020
Today is October 17 2020, Wildfires have always been a hot topic in the world. Scientists say that wildfires are getting worst due to climate change and they are not lying. Over 4 million acres of the 100 million acres of California was burnt this year. The amount of fires that burned the west coast was 8,500 wildfires in total. This left 9,247 houses burnt and 31 dead. But fortunately 37 survived non fatal injuries by the fires. You might ask how did this happen? This happened by decades of poor forest management and strong heat wave making bushes dry. Also tropical storm Fausto causing strong thunderstorms from the moisture in the air to move in and strike the ground. After this happens then the sparks light the bushes and causes fires to happen in the area. This fire made it to be the worst wildfire in modern day history. The fires lasted from august 16 to October 15.
Hurricane Season 2020
Today is September 19 2020, I will be talking about the hurricane season 2020. This year we have 8 hurricanes, 2 major hurricanes, 24 tropical cyclones, and 23 named storms. Some of these storms haven’t happened so we have to wait and see what they will do. There are so many storms for this season the names that are used to name hurricanes have run out. Now weather services are relying on the Greek alphabet to name the rest of the storms this year. This has been the most active hurricane season since 2005. In 2005 there were 27 named storms and 14 hurricanes recorded. That is only five off of this year named storms. The other thing is the storms this year are supposed to be more chaotic. This is due to warmer waters caused by climate change. There have already been examples to show with hurricane Sally dropping over 20 inches of rain in a 20 hour period. This is as much rain that part of Louisiana usually gets in four months. But there is some good news for the nor'easters that usually come around this time of year instead of it being wind it will just be rain.
Fires in Australia
Today is January 3, 2020, The fires in Australia have gotten out of control. Miles of homes and land have been burnt to a crisp. The other thing that is sad is many fluffy and cute koalas have been killed due to their trees and bushes catching on fire. 300 have died including a koala named Lewis that died due to succumbing to his wounds. But thankfully people are helping to keep these exotic creatures alive and healthy. But the forecast is suppost to get worst with heat rising.
Can Hurricanes be intensifying due to Global Warming.
Today is January 2, 2020, It has been a little while since I last posted a blog so this is my recovery one. Hurricanes could now be intensifying on the east coast and becoming more dangerous to humans. Thanks to NOAA.gov they have simulations of how much it has changed since the mid 1990’s and how the waters of the Atlantic Ocean are being effected by it. The other thing it says is how vertical wind sheer at the peak of hurricane season is expected to change by the end of the 21st century. But the area that we really have to worry about are the water temperatures in the tropical north Atlantic Ocean. I say this because these are the two most important areas for hurricane season.
The Amazon
Over the last couple weeks the Amazon forest has been up in flames. Concern has grown over the raging fires in the rainforest. The president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro has agreed on Friday to send 43,000 troops to combat the fires. Colorado has said there going to send a Boeing 747-400 firefighting plane to Boliva to hopefully take out the fire. The wildfire in the Amazon has grown attention to celebrities. Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental organization Earth Alliance has given $5 million dollars to help save the rainforest. Instargram influencers have encourage their fans to donate to organizations providing aid and solutions.
Summer may be Here
This week has been the best week of summer so far. All of the days this week has been sunny and warm. Thankfully their has been no rain. But unfortunately next week there will be an increase in cumulonimbus activity. Tuesday and Thursday will be the days when it is pouring. Otherwise, next week will be sunny with a high of 75 degrees. Right now in Lincoln county there is a Special Weather Statement lasting until 8:00 Pm EDT. The rest of the day will be sunny and the high is 72 degrees.
The Sinking Town
In the dessert of Namibia in southwest Africa, a town is sinking by sand. Over the past few years the town has been called the eerie ghost town due to its creepy looks. There’s been a lot of rummers of there being a ghost that is pulling the town down. Even though the ghost has usually been believed by the people through out Namibia the real thing is not scary at all. There has been no explanation for how its sinking for so long but it will most likely continue until it is gone.
Losing Ice
Over the past couple of months the Arctic and Antartica have been fighting climate change. These places are both very cold but Antartica is little bit colder. But somehow Antartica is losing more Ice. Scientific studies show that more ice is melting due to the water warming up. This might sound crazy but it’s true. Since it’s closer to the equator the snow ocean is more effected by it. Even though the month temperature is -18 Fahrenheit, it still loses snow and ice. It’s probably the consequences of climate change.
Canceling The Masters
Today, April 14, a strong storm has been moving through Georgia. There are tornado watches in 55 counties right now. The storm has became so bad that they had to move The Masters to the morning instead of the afternoon. In the storm wind gusts are going to be 65 mph. There are muitple severe storms in this squall. Heavy rain and hail will come with the cumulonimbus too. This is the first time in history The Masters have ever been moved. So far this year NOAA has stated $ 2 billon dollars have been spent on destruction due to storms. This blast will probably add to the cost.
The Flood
Over the past couple weeks record holding floods have been happening in the Midwest. Major to moderate flood waters have been recorded in 25 states. These floods will continue to impact the Midwest till May. Additional spring rain and melting snow will most likely help the waters rise throughout the 2 months. Until stopping in mid May or earlier. Hopefully this flood will not spread to Maine and over states.
Severe Weather
Today march 14, 2019 a strong storm system called the Cyclone Bomb has been terrorizing the Midwest. The storm has brought severe weather like tornados, blizzards, high winds, and heavy rain. The system will soon make it to Maine. By the time it gets to Maine it will be weaker and it will only bring snow and rain. This years, winter has been the wettest winter in USA history. The road’s are a little slippery right now so be careful. Thank you for tuning in and have great day.
The Storm
Today, March 3, 2019 there will most likely be a winter storm. It will start in the evening and end at 1 pm tomorrow. We are getting 5-8 inches of snow. The storm will cause slippery roads, and heavy snow will make it hard to see. Winter storm warnings will be put out at 8 pm tonight. Traffic is going to happen due to possible car crashes. The storm will produce sleet or ice. The storm tomorrow will become weaker close to the afternoon.
Super Bowl Sunday
Happy Super bowl Sunday. Today it’s Patriots vs the Rams. It will be hosted at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. In Atlanta there are still some showers roaming the area. In Atlanta it will be mostly cloudy until 10 am. In Maine we will have some snow and rain towards the evening and overnight. We’re expected to get less than an inch. A deep freeze has hit the north west temperatures going below 1 degrees. Coldest temperature recorded -77 degrees. Brrrr. Have a great day. Go Patriots!
Ice
The reason why I think there were so many cancellations today for schools around Maine is with all of the rain at the beginning of the storm. The temperatures will freeze all of the rain on the roads. That will make the roads slippery and dangerous. The slippery roads will equal to a bunch of spinouts, and car crashes. Right now there is hazardous conditions in affect. The storm will keep on moving through out the day with snow and rain to come. Later today there will be possible power outages. The storms wind breezes will stay from 30 mph to 40 mph. Thank you for tuning in. Stay safe!
Forecast For New Years!
This New Year’s the weather is going to be wet. Rainstorms will be moving from the west to the north east just in time for the Countdown in NewYork city. If you’re going I suggest wearing a rain jacket. Tomorrow the rainstorm will linger around Maine for little bit with possible snowfall scattered around Maine. The rain system will start to vanish in the afternoon. The storm in the west right now is said to be pounding down heavy rain and thunder. I hope it gets weaker so it won’t be bad for NewYork tonight.
Will You Have A White Christmas
According to Climate.gov not every person will have a white Christmas. You have a better chance of getting snow if you are close to the ocean. However, not as big as a chance if you are further in land. But that could change any moment according to the snow scale. Hey! You still have 8 days until Christmas. You could still get lucky and have a white Christmas.
The Hottest October
This October was one of the hottest Octobers. Due to climate change, it pretty messed up every thing. There are crazy wildfires in California and heat waves every where around the world. This October was the second hottest October ever recorded. But it is also the 4th hottest year to date for the globe. Moreover ten warmest October global temperatures have occurred since 2003. The average global temperature in October was 1.55 F degrees above the 20th century average of 57.1. This was the second highest temperature for October in the 139 year record.
Snow
On Friday Maine experienced a snowy nor’easter that brought up to 8 inches of snow. It was crazy. I loved seeing the snow. The snow was fascinating to watch come down. I was the first one at my house to touch the new fallen snow. It was a strong nor’easter. The snow came down fast and continuous. The nor’easter has now ended but there are more expected to come this winter.
In Flames
California has been hit by one of the state’s worst wildfires in history. It has destroyed astoundingly 6,500 buildings. 30 people have been killed already and the firefighters are still trying to identify these bodies lost in the flames. It started in Paradise Lake last week by a campfire. It became deadly to stand around and then went out of control. It has burned over a hundred thousand acres so far. It will take a couple weeks to control the fire at this rate.
